Long flights can be challenging, especially if you're not used to spending so much time sitting on a plane. 15, 20, or even 24 hours if your destination is Australia, in the stifling cabin of an airplane can seem like the stuff of nightmares, but long-haul flights can be made more enjoyable with a little preparation and some basic comforts. Follow our 10 tips to survive a long flight and land refreshed, relaxed and ready to begin your experience when you land.
Get a good night's rest before your flight
It's important to get a good night's rest the night before a long flight so that you're rested during the flight and can make the most of your travel time.
Wear comfortable clothes
A key point to survive a long flight is comfort. Choose comfortable clothes and shoes that are easy to take off so you can relax during the flight. Remember that sitting and being exposed to the powerful air conditioning system on airplanes can make you cold, very cold! So it is ideal to wear several layers of clothing to adjust to the temperature of the plane.

Get ready for sleep
Bringing a blanket and pillow can make you feel more comfortable and help you sleep during the flight. An eye mask is also a good idea!
Don't carry too much hand luggage
While some extras help, you should keep your travel items to a minimum. There's nothing more stressful than dragging a large suitcase through the boarding area and spending two hours trying to fit it into the overhead bins.

Bring your own snacks
Taking snacks with you on a long flight can be a good idea, as it will help you feel full and give you something to do during the flight.
Move around the plane
Stretching your legs is necessary on a long-haul flight, among other things, to avoid the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Keep your legs circulating by doing gentle exercises in your seat and get up every two hours. There may not be any particular place to walk, apart from the aisles, but moving around the plane from time to time is much more advisable for healthy rest than taking sleeping pills.
Stay hydrated
Aircraft cabins are often very dry places and the chances of becoming dehydrated are high. Drink plenty of water regularly and avoid excessive tea, coffee and alcohol.
Use skin care products
The dry air on a plane can be damaging to your skin, so be sure to pack moisturizing products to keep your skin hydrated and protected.

Relax!
What better time to relax and do nothing than on a flight? Without mobile coverage, with the crew waiting for everything you need, with another person at the wheel... Make the most of the time to catch up on that book you haven't had a chance to read, watch the latest season of your favourite series or get excited about your destination by browsing through the guidebook.
Bring entertainment
And of course, bring books, games, movies or music to keep you entertained during the flight. I don't fly without my Nintendo Switch!
